CAIR Change Makers
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) apologetically champions the cause of the American-Muslim community, steadfastly confronting Islamophobia. For years, CAIR has provided unwavering legal defense, amplified our community’s voice in the media, represented our interests in halls of power, mass mobilized our community during critical moments, and invests in training and inspiring the next generation of American Muslims Leaders.
The Simple Deep-Rooted Challenge: Not Enough Investment in Change Makers
A persistent, deep-rooted challenge for the American-Muslim community is the underinvestment in encouraging young Muslims to pursue professional fields through degrees aimed at creating change, power, and influence. Currently, not enough Muslims are entering fields such as political science, law, public policy, journalism, media, and non-profit management. We cannot hope to build significant power and influence in the U.S. unless we address this fundamental issue and encourage our most talented individuals to pursue these critical degrees.
Our Founder’s Story & the Importance of Change Makers
Faizan Syed, co-founder of ACC and former director of CAIR in Missouri & Texas, originally studied Astronomy, Physics, and Math in college. However, his life took a significant turn after attending the Iowa caucuses, where he met several presidential candidates. This experience inspired him to switch his majors to Politics and History, a pivotal decision that set him on a path to serve at CAIR for over a decade and establish several non-profit organizations, including ACC. It is clear that without this critical change in his academic and professional direction, the potential partnership we see today would not exist.
