ACC For Educational Justice Program

The ACC for Educational Justice program aims to serve communities that have been historically underrepresented in the educational system. We will focus on serving the African American communities in the first two years, and we will then expand the program to serve the Latino and refugee communities in future years. Ultimately, our goal is to empower these Muslim minorities with an riba-free education in order to open the doors of opportunities and pave their path towards a successful career.

There is no doubt that there is a definite need for more programs to serve students in underrepresented communities that do not have the same educational opportunities as their peers simply because of their ethnicity, race, or school district. As an organization whose primary mission is to facilitate ease in attaining higher education through riba-free financial assistance, we need to do our part, even if it’s a drop in the ocean.

Lower family wealth among African American families and the decline in state funding for two-year and four-year public colleges ultimately push these students to borrow more money. So, in comparison to white students, African American students are impacted by student debt to a far greater extent.

During the first phase of this program, we will fund 13 African American students from the following locations: Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Los Angeles, CA, Tampa, FL, and Philadelphia, PA. Each student will receive a maximum riba-free fund of $20,000. When these students repay the borrowed sum, we will re-allocate that money to another student, ultimately establishing a Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity).
